Your stone benchtop can last a lifetime… if you take care of it the right way!

🔪🔥 1. Always use boards and heat pads!
Avoid cutting directly on the stone or placing hot pots and pans straight onto it. Impact and heat can cause cracks and stains.

⚠️🪨 2. Be extra careful with the edges.
The corners are the most likely to chip — and guess what? That’s where cups and pans tend to hit the most.

☕️❌ 3. Coasters are your best friend.
Cup rings can show up fast, especially on lighter stones. Don’t take the risk!

🧃⏱️ 4. Spilled something? Clean it straight away!
Coffee, wine, juice, and sauces can soak in quickly if the stone isn’t well sealed. The faster you clean it, the less chance of staining.

🛡️🧼 5. Reseal your benchtop every year.
That’s what protects your stone from absorbing liquids. Sealers don’t last forever — they need regular maintenance!

❌🧴 Bonus tip: Avoid harsh cleaning products.

Dekton is an ultra-compact surface made from a sophisticated blend of raw materials used in the production of glass, porcelain, and quartz. It’s manufactured by Cosentino using a process called particle sintering, which replicates — in just a few hours — what nature would take thousands of years to create.

The result is a highly durable material that’s resistant to heat, scratching, stains, UV rays and abrasion — basically, it’s near indestructible for both residential and commercial use. On top of that, Dekton has very low porosity, meaning it doesn’t absorb liquids and is super easy to clean.

But like anything, it’s not perfect — here are a few downsides to keep in mind:
1. Higher price tag: Dekton is a premium product, so the cost per square metre (including cutting and installation) can be quite a bit higher than other options like granite or engineered stone.
2. Fragile to handle before installation: While it’s incredibly strong once installed, it can chip or crack if not handled carefully during transport and fabrication.
3. Requires specialised installation: Because it’s a technical and denser material, it needs specific equipment and trained professionals to work with it — which can bump up the total cost.
4. Cooler to the touch and a more “industrial” look: If you prefer the warm, natural feel of materials like marble or granite, Dekton might come across as a bit cold or manufactured.
5. Hard to repair if damaged: If it does crack or chip after installation, repairs can be tricky — and sometimes not even possible, especially if it’s a large slab.
